Chronological Bible Reading Plan for 2027

A chronological Bible reading plan arranges Scripture in the approximate order the events happened, so the whole Bible reads as one unfolding story. This free 365-day plan for 2027 starts with Genesis 1–4, places Job after Genesis 11 (days 4–16), sets Psalm 90 — Moses' own prayer — on the day Moses dies, and reaches the Gospels on day 273. Each day is balanced to about 85 verses, roughly 15 minutes, and it is the same chronological order built into the By The Water app.

How the chronological order works

The Bible's books are arranged by type — law, history, poetry, prophets — not by date, so a straight read jumps back and forth in time. A chronological plan puts each passage where it happened. Job, set in the age of the patriarchs, is read after the Tower of Babel (days 4–16). Psalm 90, “a prayer of Moses,” is read alongside Deuteronomy 34, the day Moses dies (day 82). The prophets arrive inside the history of the kings they spoke to, Ezra and Nehemiah follow the exile, and the New Testament letters are woven into Acts where they were written.

Balanced by verses, not chapters

Chapters vary enormously in length, so this plan balances each day by verses instead — most days are about 85 verses. That is why some days list many chapters (a run of short psalms) and others only one: they take about the same time to read. The one long day is Psalm 119, at 176 verses, which can't sensibly be split.

What is a chronological Bible reading plan?

A plan that arranges Scripture in the approximate order events happened, rather than the order the books appear. Job is read with the patriarchs, Psalms with the lives of their writers, and the prophets inside the history of the kings they addressed.

Where does Job go in a chronological Bible reading plan?

In this plan Job is read on days 4 to 16, straight after Genesis 11, because the book is set in the age of the patriarchs.

When do you reach the New Testament in the chronological plan?

The Gospels begin on day 273 with Matthew, and the letters are woven into Acts where they were written — James on day 322, Romans on day 338.

Why do some days have so many chapters?

Days are balanced by verses (about 85 a day), not chapters. A day with many short psalms reads about as long as a day with three long chapters.
